The University of South Bohemia opened the newly renovated K4 dormitory

The general renovation of the K4 dormitory building on the campus of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, which had been underway since November 2020, is now complete and on Tuesday 31 May at 11:30 a.m., a grand opening ceremony was held in the presence of the management of the University of South Bohemia.

After the renovation of the K1 dormitory, which was completed in 2018, the management of the University of South Bohemia proceeded to renovate the K4 dormitory, despite the fact that this building was the youngest of the remaining dormitories on the JU campus (construction completed in 1994). The reason for this was its largest accommodation capacity of all the remaining unrenovated dormitories of the University of South Bohemia and also its suitable layout of rooms and sanitary facilities, which corresponded most closely to the higher standard of accommodation and did not require a complete rebuilding of the internal layout as in the case of dormitories K2 and K3.

The rooms in the K4 dormitory have a cellular layout with a private toilet, shower and fridge. Most units consist of two double rooms with shared facilities. On the ninth and tenth floors, there are a total of 4 units with two single rooms and even a total of 8 single rooms with their own toilet, shower and fridge. There is a communal kitchen on each floor and laundry rooms with washing machines on every odd-numbered floor. In addition, all rooms have received new furniture. The total capacity of the K4 dormitory is 384 beds. At the same time, the ground floor of the building houses the offices and storage facilities of the USB Dormitories and Refectories.

Students of the University of South Bohemia can choose from two accommodation options. The first one includes rooms/units with a private facilities at dormitories K1, K4 and K5, while the cheaper ones are dormitories K2 and K3 with shared bathroom facilities.

The total cost of the K4 renovation, including equipment, amounted to CZK 114.5 million, of which CZK 62 million was covered by a subsidy and the remaining CZK 52.5 million was covered by the University's own resources. The cost of the construction itself was CZK 101.7 million.

Now it should be the turn of the general renovation of the auditorium of the University of South Bohemia, the so-called ‘Bobík’. It is already ready to be handed over to a construction company, which should start the construction work in a few weeks.
